Imagine this: a historic downtown, sprawling civil war battlefields, beautiful countryside filled with farms and wineries, and jaw dropping views to take in. Welcome to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
How do you choose your next vacation? Is it the outdoor adventures that your family can have? An emerging culinary scene with farm to table delights? Is it the historical significant of a location? What about the amount of shopping? Or are you looking for a safe, budget-friendly destination?
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania has it all!
Gettysburg is definitely on my bucket list. I am the planner in the family when it comes to vacations. Maybe it’s because I love to sit down and pour over what a destination has to offer. I thought I would share with you what my family friendly trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania would include.
If you have been following me for awhile, you know that we love to camp. My family would definitely book a campsite at one of the many campgrounds near Gettysburg. If you are more of a glamper, most of the campgrounds also offer cabins and cottages. We love the relaxing pace of a camping and being able to make s’mores too!
We discovered my daughter’s love of horses a couple summers ago (I think almost every little girl loves horses). Now if we go anywhere that there is horseback riding it’s a must do activity! My daughter, along with most children, would love to go on a guided horseback ride through the Civil War battlefields much like the calvary did so many years ago. This is a great way to teach your child about the historical significance of the area in a fun way.
My family loves trying out different foods and drinks when we visit a new place. The emerging food scene in Gettysburg, especially the farm to table and craft beverages (spirits, hard cider, and wine) will be a must try on our trip.
Gettysburg is surrounded by amazing beautiful country farms! A visit to the area is not complete without a visit to the berry patches or orchards, where you can taste and bring home the fruit of the season. If it’s apple season, you’ll find my family out picking! Gettysburg is the top producer of apples in Pennsylvania and #4 in the USA.
My family loves to be outside, so depending on the time of year we visit you will find us either hiking or skiing.
Trust me there are so many wonderful activities to do and historical places to take in that your children will only be on their phones to snap photos of your family’s fun along the way.
I always find videos so helpful when looking to book my next trip because they can give you so many ideas to add to your list. Here’s a look at Gettysburg:
