The ultimate guide to spending a day in Mykonos Greece. Including everything you must do, must see, and must eat.
When you think about Greece you probably think of one of the Greek Islands like Santorini or Mykonos. Full of white buildings with bright blue trim, inviting narrow alleyways, and surrounded by the sparkling Aegean Sea, Mykonos is just waiting to be explored. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Greece and I highly recommend adding a visit to the island to your trip. We visited Mykonos on our Royal Caribbean Greek and Adriatic cruise, so we only had one day on the island.
Mykonos is a wonderful island to just wander. The narrow alleyways and streets in Mykonos are like a maze and you could easily get lost, but if you do try to enjoy getting to see more of the beautiful town.
Here’s at a look some of the top things to see in Mykonos in one day.
What to See in Mykonos
Church of St. Nicholas
Located along the harbor is the little blue-domed Church of St. Nicholas. You can go inside to see the votives that sailors/fisherman light before going out to sea.
Agias Paraskevis Street
This street is quintessential Mykonos and is one that you see all the time online when you search for the island. Get here early because it will be full of tourists, but it is so worth it because the street is gorgeous!
Happiness Boutique
This charming boutique is another site that is all over social media. It sits where two street meet and is surrounded by white buildings and blue detail. This spot will also get very busy, so get here early.
Alefkandra Neighborhood
This neighborhood near Little Venice has a cobblestone square with both the Greek Orthodox Cathedral (Metropolitan Church) and the island’s only Catholic Cathedral. Also near Agias Parakevis Street.
Little Venice Waterfront
Here the picturesque white-washed buildings meet the sea along the Mykonos coast near the windmills. It is also a popular spot to watch the sunset.
Kato Mili Windmills
Mykonos’s famous windmills are located near the Little Venice waterfront and some were built in the 16th century by the Venetians (although construction continued into the early 20th century). The windmills were used to grind grain into flour before being loaded onto ships.
Note: Be prepared for the wind. There is a reason why the windmills were built here.
Panachra Church
This gorgeous church sits in a cobbled square with colorful flags strung across it and beautiful blooming flowers.
Paraportiani Church
This white rocky church is actually five churches combined to look like one and dates back to the 15th century. It is one of the most photographed churches on Mykonos.
Boni’s Windmill
Located off the beaten path and up a small hill is Boni’s Windmill. It provides an incredible view down onto the town and the sea beyond.
More Options
If you are looking for additional things to do, you could take a boat to the island of Delos to explore. It is one of the most important mythological, historical, and archaeological sites in Greece and is the birthplace of Apollo. The island’s ruins include Doric temples, an amphitheater, houses with mosaics, and the Terrace of the Lions statues. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the island and the majority of the sites can be seen in 1.5 to 2 hours. For more information about visiting Delos, click here.
