I have a love for vintage dishes (I blame my mom!). While I do collect Taylor Smith Taylor Cathay dishes, most of my collection are random pieces that I’ve picked up over the years. I am cheap (I blame my dad!). So, since dishes at antique store can cost quite a bit, one of my favorite places to purchase dishes is my local Goodwill.
My Goodwill sells plates, bowls, and glasses for $0.59 each unless marked! Of course, there is a lot of junk to dig through and during my last visit I may have accidentally touched a plate that still had dried food attached to it (gross!!!)
I picked up all the dishes pictured for only $5.71, which is less than I would have paid just for the small cream bowl or black and cream tray at an antique store. So what am I going to do with the pieces that I picked up? After a good washing, I put the dishes to use.
The cream bowl and tray plate ($0.99) have been added to my cabinet that I pull from for serving dishes.
Probably my favorite find of the day was the Santa mug. This mug will hold hot chocolate frequently this holiday season.
The blue and gray Eames style plates have been added to my china cabinet with my Taylor Smith Taylor Cathay dishes. They look pretty good together, even though they are not an exact match.
The cream and gold atomic saucer is perfect in my kitchen window to hold my shells, coral and sea glass from our trips to Hawaii.
Not everything that I picked up at Goodwill this week was vintage. The black rimmed small bowl and small plate are newer pieces, but I really liked the colors and size of them; perfect to hold scrapbook supplies.
The last item I picked up was a white mug that I will use for water colors or to mix paints in.
I am so happy with all my finds from Goodwill and I cannot wait to make another trip!

I love the atomic 60s pieces. And the gold bursts? I’m in love!
I love the gold atomic plate too. That’s really why I had to put it in my kitchen window so that I could see it several times a day!
I really want a few pretty antique dishes! I never thought of looking at Goodwill!
There is always the chance of finding some vintage dishes at Goodwill!
You found some great stuff Paris! Every time I go to Goodwill I find nothing. I would have thought the Goodwill near me would have some good stuff since it is close to a country club.
Yes, sadly Goodwill is hit or miss! 🙁
Blame my mom as well. I’m falling in love with dishes. My mom has the set in the 4th picture. 🙂
Thats so cool Reginia!
I love Goodwill! I’ve never thought about picking up dishes from there but you found some awesome uses for these! And that Santa mug is too cute!
Thanks Rebecca; I’m in love with the santa mug too.
What wonderful finds! I especially fell in love with the Christmas mugs 🙂
Thanks Anni! Me too, I had to dig through all the mugs to find it but it was worth it!
LOVE that Santa mug – it’s SO precious. I love a good thrift find!
Me too, thanks Madaline!
I love those! Sometimes I only really need a few different styled plates for when I do the finished pictures of food, the Goodwill would be a great option.
Perfect idea!
These are so cute!

The Santa mug was my favorite too! Goodwill does tend to be hit or miss. Some of the fun is the search! 🙂
