On a recent road trip through the panhandle of Texas, I knew that I wanted to stop at Cadillac Ranch. This fun art installation is constantly changing as guests visit and leave their mark on the cars. Yes, you heard that right you are allowed to graffiti or spray paint on the ten Cadillac cars that are half-buried nose-down into the ground.

What is Cadillac Ranch
Cadillac Ranch is an art display that features a line of 10 half-buried Cadillacs in the ground. It was created in an old cow pasture by a group of artists enlisted by Stanley Marsh III, an eccentric millionaire and Texas businessman. He wanted to commemorate the golden age of the automobile with the art display.
Where is Cadillac Ranch
Located along south I-40 in Amarillo, Texas, Cadillac Ranch is a classic Route 66 roadside attraction. It is colorful, kitsch, and unique. A fun stop for the whole family if you are traveling through Texas near Amarillo. It is free to visit Cadillac Ranch and it is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Tips for Visiting
- If you are passing through or near the area, Cadillac Ranch is a great place to stop and stretch your legs.
- You can bring your own spray paint from home or there is usually a trailer in the parking area that sells spray paint.
- To get to Cadillac Ranch you have to pass through a dirt field, therefore if it has rained recently it may be muddy.
- The art exhibit is free to enter and open 24/7. Just walk through the gate and find a car you would like to leave your mark on.
- Please take your garbage, including spray paint cans, with you when you leave. Or better yet bring a trash bag with you to pick up some of the garbage left behind.
