Summer is not my favorite time to visit Disney World, in fact, I usually avoid the parks during this time because it is so hot in Florida. However, I understand that for many people that is the only time of the year that they can visit.
Last week, we flew into Orlando from our trip to Europe, so we decided since we were already in town to add on a couple days for a visit to Walt Disney World. It was hot and there were crowds, but we were able to have a great time creating more memories together by using the following tips!

Take Advantage of Earlier Mornings and Later Evenings
If you are staying on property, you will have access to either extra magic hours in the morning or evening each day of your trip. Take advantage of the extra time in the parks during the coolest time of the day.
Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is so important especially during the hot summer! We bring a refillable aluminum water bottle to the park each day. During the day, when we purchase a bottle of water we pour it into our aluminum water bottle because it keeps the water cold and the bottle does not sweat, so I can place the water in my purse or our backpack and not be afraid of what it will ruin.
You could also refill the water bottles at the water fountains or get ice water at any counter service location. My family does not use the water fountains because the couple trips we did, we got sick but since we quit we haven’t gotten sick. I did notice on our last trip that a couple bottle filler fountains have popped up around the parks; while I did not see a lot of them I do hope they become more prevalent.
Take a Break Mid-Day
During the hottest time of the day, taking a break will help rejuvenate you and you can hit the parks in the late afternoon for round 2.
We love to take a dip in the pool because we always find it makes you feel so much cooler. This small amount of downtime really rejuvenates me to go back to the parks for more fun!
Stay Cool
We used the Frogg Toggs The Original Chilly Pad to help stay cool. Before the trip, I cut the towel in half, so that two of us could use it at the same time. Just wet the towel, wring it out and put around your neck. The towel will keep you cool as the water evaporates, however you will not get wet.
Seek Shade
Living in the south has made me a shade seeker, especially during the summer. If there is shade I will try to walk in it. If we stop to look at a map or get something from our bag, we stop in the shade.
Skin Care
It is very important to protect your skin during your trip, be sure to apply sunscreen often and to bring some into the park with you. We also take mosquito repellent to spray on us as the sun starts to set.
