During the hot summer months there is nothing better than spending time in the water whether it’s at the pool, ocean or a waterpark! My husband has been suggesting we take a trip to a Schlitterbahn Waterpark for awhile and I think S is at an age that she will really enjoy it. Schlitterbahn has something for everyone with a huge variety of rides: some wild and some mild. Plus there are several children play areas setup around the park.
When looking into Schlitterbahn Galveston, where we could spend time at both the waterpark and the beach, I saw that Schlitterbahn allows you to bring in your own ice chest (no alcohol or glass allowed). How cool is that! Schlitterbahn must love families, because we can save money on the price of food/drinks and eat healthier options too. Plus if you have a picky eater this is perfect!
As part of Schlitterbahn’s Moms Ice Chest Challenge, I am going to share one of my favorite picnic recipes: Chicken Salad. Need a tip to help keep your food cold? Try freezing bottles of water or lemonade (leave room for the liquid to expand by making sure the bottles are not all the way full) and use that along with ice packs. As the bottles defrost you will end up with nice cold water/lemonade to drink!
- ¼ cup light miracle whip
- 1 cup cut up chicken (I prefer using leftovers like from rotisserie chicken)
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 of a small onion or 1 green onion
- Handful of grapes cut in half
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Combine all ingredients until mixed. Serve on bread or rolls.
That water park sounds so refreshing! When I’m at the beach, I always freeze my water bottles so that they stay colder longer when I’m out enjoying the pool and ocean all day. Wish I was at the water park right now! 🙂
I agree a water park sounds great! I love that water bottle freezing tip!
I loveee water parks! This chicken salad sounds divine.
Thank you Madaline!
What I wouldn’t give to just let loose at a water park!!! I grew up fairly close to Wisconsin Dells, and always loved when my mom would load us all up and take us up there for a quick weekend trip!!! I love the idea of freezing water bottles to keep your picnic lunch chilled and then getting to enjoy that water later once it has melted with your meal!!! I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that sooner!!
What great childhood memories! We haven’t been to a water park in a couple years and actually the last when we went to was Great Wolf Lodge in the Dells 🙂
I haven’t been to a water park in years! I would love to go to one again some day. Thanks for your recipe!
Thank you Louida
