I wanted to provide an update on my Photo Travel Map that I had posted about in 2014. We have added a couple new states to the map and I also have changed what adhesive I am using to apply my photos with.
Background
One bucket list item I decided on after S was born was to take her to visit all 50 states before she graduates from high school. That does not mean driving through a state. It means actually exploring the state…visiting museums, state parks, tourist attractions, etc. I believe that exposing S to different experiences, activities, and travel is so very important.
With all this traveling, I wanted a special memento that would continue to grow as we visit additional states. I decided on a photo travel map, which is two canvases with family photos cut out in the shape of each state to form a map of the US.
For complete directions on how I cut out the states using my Cricut and assembled the canvas please see my original post here.
Update
I have added new photos to my map including Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oklahoma. We visited these states all on the same trip on our road trip to see Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
I still have not found a photo that will work with Florida, even though we visit once a year sometimes more. I am trying to figure out how to make the panhandle fit.
I have changed the adhesive that I am using to adhere the photos to the canvas. I had been using my Scotch Advanced Tape Glider (ATG) in permanent, which worked fine on the original states they are still holding strong. However, when I removed the pattern paper from some of the states and adhered the photos they were not sticking well. So, I used Red Line Adhesive and that is working great.
This past year it feels like we’ve not checked off as many states as I would have liked. We have traveled quite a bit, however, it was either to states we’ve already been to or to different countries. Prior to 2014, S had never been outside the United States, but now she is up to 16 countries! It’s time to take another road trip!

I remember this from before, but had to pin it again. It’s such a great idea that we should do.
