My daughter recently discovered the minions when we watched Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 before visiting Universal Studios a couple months ago. She fell in love with them! I mean what’s not to love with those hilarious, little, yellow minions! Therefore I knew she would love Minions © 2015 Universal Studios. All rights reserved.
We love to have movie nights and it is always more fun when we create a themed dinner, snack or dessert to go along with the movie. Taking inspiration from Illumination Entertainment’s Minions movie, we created minions homemade pretzels with a sweet cream cheese dipping sauce. This pretzel recipe is a family favorite! I have been told many times when hosting a party that homemade pretzels with dipping sauce must be on the menu!
Homemade Pretzels with Sweet Cream Cheese Dipping Sauce
The pretzels do have several steps, however they are very easy to make. Nothing beats the sweet cream cheese dipping sauce! After making the pretzels, I added the minions goggles using frosting – it is not required, but it just makes the snack/treat more fun!
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (must be 110 to 115° F)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 10 cups water
- 2/3 cups baking soda
- cooking spray
- coarse salt
- In a stand mixer, combine using a paddle attachment warm water, sugar, salt and yeast on low for 15 seconds. Switch the attachment for a dough hook. Add flour and butter, mix on low until combined and then on medium until the dough is smooth and pulls away from the sides of the bowl (about 5 minutes).
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm spot for 55 minutes. The dough should have doubled in size.
- Turn the dough out onto an oiled surface and divide the dough into eight pieces. Roll the dough into ropes and then cut into pieces. Keep the dough covered with a lightly damp cloth to prevent the dough from drying out.
- Boil 10 cups of water with the baking soda. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Using a spatula lower the pretzel pieces into the boiling water and boil for 30 seconds. Remove pretzel pieces, drain well and place them on the baking sheets. Spray with cooking spray and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake at 425° for 7-9 minutes.
- 4 ounces softened cream cheese
- 2 Tbsp softened butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-4 Tbsp milk
- Cream the cream cheese and butter together, then add in the powdered sugar and milk.
- To obtain a smooth dipping sauce, make sure the cream cheese and butter are softened.

Those pretzels are so cute with the minions faces. I make pretzels regularly, but I always do savory ones – I may have to go with sweet pretzels next time, yum! #client

Wow, now not only are they cute I super love how short the ingredient list is. I do have a question though – what if you don’t have a stand mixer? Is it still possible for me to make these amazing sounding pretzels? Thank you for sharing at Welcome Home Wednesday!

I haven’t tried Sam, but you should be able to kneed by hand. Thanks for stopping by!
