I have always wanted S to have a large chalkboard in her playroom. Somewhere she could write or draw pictures; maybe play school with her dolls or stuffed animals.
While I was transforming our freezer into a chalkboard freezer, I decided to also take apart a large old picture frame and turn it into a chalkboard.
On the backer board of the picture frame, I painted a coat of primer and three coats of chalkboard paint as directed on the package. I found that the paint went on very easily.
I spray painted the picture frame purple using two coats. Then I reassembled the pieces minus the Plexiglas.
I hung the picture frame low in S’s playroom using Command Stripes, which is my favorite way to hang photos. I also used a Command Stripe Hook to hang a bucket of chalk and an eraser next to the chalkboard.
The chalkboard is a great place to practice writing letters, numbers and words!
Do you have something that you want to turn into a chalkboard?

Thank you so much Erin! I am all about easy projects!
I’ve gone on a chalkboard kick lately but I haven’t done one with a frame. I love the color you chose.
Thank you Tammy! It’s additive!
I love chalkboard paint!! I have painted quite a few things with it and they have always turned out great! I love your purple frame 🙂
Thank you Ricci! I love how easy it is to paint with the chalkboard paint.
I love that purple. I’ve never turned anything into a chalkboard, but I’d love to try it.
It was really easy!
Wow, once again another great idea Paris! With the picture frame it helps hang the chalkboard perfectly on the wall. #Pinning!
Thank you Louida!
This is too cool!! 🙂 Is it bad that I am kind of jealous of your daughter? You are always doing the neatest DIYs! 🙂 Thank you for sharing!

You are so sweet Nancy!
This is a much cuter idea than painting a whole wall and bonus, you can move it wherever you want. Cute! Stopping over from Southern Girl Blog Group.
Thank you Cajun! Yes, I love that we can move it or raise it as needed.
I love this! And such a practical thing to have around for kids!
Thank you Kim! It has definitely come in handy.

Love it! Can’t wait to try it.
Thank you!
What a wonderful way to transform something into a new item. Plus chalkboards are awesome for notes and schedules.
Exactly Becca! Plus everyone loves to write on a chalkboard 🙂
Very cool! My DIL just painted the closet doors in her girls room with chalkboard paint and let them have fun! I say….good going! I never had trouble with kids writing on the walls, but I remember as a kid how I LOVED chalk (wanted to be a teacher just so I could write on the chalkboard all the time!). Followed you from snickerdoodle linky!
That’s awesome, Cheri! We haven’t had problems either with writing on the walls.
Aww this looks great, I need one of these 🙂
Thanks for sharing over at Creative Mondays
This work well in a kitchen, office or mudroom for notes too!

This is a great idea! I love those command stripes too, but have fallen out of using them so much. You’ve re-inspired me to go out and get some more – so easy!
Thanks for sharing with us at Wake Up Wednesday!
Thank you Karen! I love the command stripes especially when I need to move a picture. Plus I love that they keep the picture/art straight on the wall!
Great idea! Thank you for sharing with us at the Merry Monday Link Party!
Thank you Amanda!
First of all, I had no idea they sold chalkboard paint. I have been looking for a chalkboard but some of the stores do not carry them anymore. In addition, if I happen to see one somewhere, it always ends up being way to big. I love this!
Yes, chalkboard paint is awesome! I got mine at Home Depot. I’ve even seen recipes on pinterest for making your own colored chalkboard paint.
I love chalkboard everything yet do not have an actual chalkboard up in the house. This is such a simple project that I definitely need to re-create!
Thanks for linking up at Merry Mondays!
