I think my daughter turning 5 has been the hardest age to accept yet. There is just something about the number 5 that makes me realize that she is growing up and way too fast! She on the other hand was excited to turn 5. I’ve let S choose the theme of her birthday party since her 2nd birthday and this year she decided to go with Lego Friends. She particularly loves the jungle themed building sets.
I wanted S’s cake look like a Lego block. To make the cake I baked it 9×13 and then cut it into two rectangles with enough room to cut out 6 circles (I used a biscuit cutter). Because of all the cut edges the cake required a crumb coat
I used these smaller jungle sets to decorate the dessert table, but they would also be cute on a cake or as party favors for guests. S assembled the monkey one earlier in the day which entertained her while I was trying to set up for her party.
I wrapped boxes and placed punched circles on pop dots on top of the boxes to make them look like jumbo Lego bricks. I used these Lego bricks to decorate the table, but they would also make for a beautiful backdrop for the food table.
I added a bunch of Lego pieces to a clear glass lidded compote dish (you could also use a large bowl) for decoration.
S wanted chicken tortilla soup for dinner with all the fixings. And sweet tea. I don’t think you can have a party in the south without sweet tea!
S really enjoyed her birthday and has had a blast assembling all her Lego friends jungle building sets!
