Some of S’s favorite items to play with is water beads and shaving cream! For a fun imaginative, pretend play activity we opened up an ice cream shop for her toys.
S prepared the ice creams, sundaes and milkshakes that her toys ordered. We used plastic cups, cones and various other dishes that she collected from her playroom. The only supplies we used were water beads (purple, but you could use a variety of colors), shaving cream and sprinkles.
To hydrate the water beads, place them in a bowl. It will take time for them to reach their full size, so I usually soak them overnight.
I gave S all the supplies and set her loose to create and play as she wanted to!
This is a great sensory activity too! The shaving cream is silky smooth and the water beads are slippery and bouncy. S takes delight in running her hands through the bowl of water beads.
We made sure to use all plastic or silicon items so that everything was washable because S’s toys of course had to test their treats out.
To clean up, I rinsed everything off in the sink. The toys got washed in soapy water. I saved all the water beads and placed them back into a bowl. Without water on them they will shrink back down and you can store them for later use.
Have you played with water beads with your child? If so, what is your favorite way to play?
**Please note: water beads and shaving cream are not edible! Please make sure that your child does not place the water beads or shaving cream in their mouth.

I haven’t been brave enough to let our son go crazy with shaving cream yet. Maybe I’ll set him up in the bathtub and let him go crazy!

The bath tub is a great place to play with shaving cream and you can even color it for more fun!
