Simple tips to help you create a beautiful fall vignette in your home including using a 3-tier tray full of pumpkins and holiday spice.
Who’s ready for fall? I know I am! Maybe if I start decorating for fall the Texas weather will cooperate and start cooling down!
I have started decorating for fall. What about you?
I am in love with having a fall vignette in my entryway. A vignette is a group of items placed together to create a focal point and have a theme. Usually, vignettes are placed on entryway tables or as a centerpiece on your table.
For something a little different this year I decided to use my metal 3-tier tray that I have had FOREVER on the cart in my entryway! They seem to be making a comeback and I just unpacked mine (<–that’s another story).
I have a three-tiered cart that is in my entranceway and I am loving switching the top shelf out for each holiday/season!
How to Make a Fall Vignette
Start by choosing an anchor piece or focal point for your vignette. It could be a 3-tier tray or a large sign/quote for fall.
Then shop your house to find items that you could incorporate into your vignette. It could be pottery or cake stand from the kitchen, linens from the dining room, or a stack of books from the living room. Then dive into your fall decorations and pull out small pumpkins or signs. You could even head into the backyard for pinecones.
If you are assembling your vignette on a tabletop, you may want to use a container like a tray or low basket to hold smaller items and contain your vignette.
Be sure to add depth and dimension to your fall vignette by stacking or layering items. Also, vary the size and texture of items, but try to keep your vignette to only a couple of colors.
I mentioned books earlier because I love to use them to lift items when decorating. They allow you to vary the height of items in your fall vignette. If you do not have a 3-tiered tray (or 2-tiered) you could use a cake stand.
If your vignette doesn’t look quite right, try moving items around, adding to or taking items away. It might take a couple of tries before you like the end result. Adding in small springs of greenery or berries and pinecones make a huge difference. Compare the picture above to the finished piece.
Some ideas for items to use to decorate your vignette and tiered tray with include:
- Mini potted plants
- Mini signs
- Foliage, pinecones, or cotton
- Pumpkins
- Fall mug
- Candles
- Tea towel or fabric piece
- Wire baskets
By using everyday pieces as the base for your design you will reduce your overall expense and it will be easy to remove the seasonal items and replace with the next holiday or season items.
Have fun! I’d love to see your fall vignette tag me in your photo on Instagram.
