On our most recent trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, we spent an extended weekend camping. We love visiting the beach and could not wait to get to take our camper to the gulf. We were also able to take our family photo for Alabama to add to my Travel Map.
Tacky Jacks
Tacky Jacks is something I think you should experience at least once. There are three locations in the area (Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and near Fort Morgan) and I have been to two of them. Tacky Jacks is a fun environment with games outside, happy employees and a waterfront view. The food is mostly seafood and southern. If you indulge in alcohol, I would recommend the Bushwacker – an adult milkshake with rum and coffee liqueur. Be sure to grab a piece of duck tape, write a note and stick it to the outside of the patio to leave your mark.
Gulf State Park
While there are many of beach access points in Gulf Shores, we really enjoy going to beach at Gulf State Park. You do have to pay to park, however we found this part of the beach to relatively quiet. Gulf State Park has 3.5 miles of pristine white sand beaches with lots of seashells.
Fort Morgan
Fort Morgan was completed in 1834 and played an important part in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. The fort was also used during World War I and II.
Fort Morgan was amazing to see! We arrived as soon as they opened and had the whole area to ourselves for the first 45 minutes. Be sure to explore all the open doors. We found the coolest row of arches by going through the door below, then down a dark hallway and out into a grass yard before re-entering the fort.
The site also has nature areas to explore, a boat launch and beaches to relax on.
Doc’s RV Park
We spent our last trip to Gulf Shores Alabama at Docs RV Park. They are not located on the beach, but only 3 miles from one. The campground was quiet, lots of trees, full hookups and the managers were friendly. The RV park has a pool and playground. It is also located along the Alabama Trail for walking or biking.
Have you been to Gulf Shores? What is your favorite thing to do?
