I kept seeing on Pinterest bubble paintings; where the child blows bubble in a bowl of colored soapy water and then you place a piece of paper on top to get the bubble image. We attempted to make bubble paintings and while we got the bubbles to appear on the paper, they were extremely light in color.
I could tell that S was fading fast since she wasn’t having much fun and I wanted to salvage the activity (ie not waste all that colored water). So, I ran into the house to grab a spray bottle of vinegar and some baking soda. The day before we had created a messy potion, see this post. So, what is better than messy potions but erupting messy potions?
S added some colored soapy water to the messy potion and then sprinkled on some baking soda. Armed with the spray bottle of vinegar, S created colorful foaming eruptions.
This sequence of events continued: add more colored soapy water and baking soda and then spray with vinegar until the table was filled with muddled brown water.
Then S decided to start digging for treasures (the alphabet pasta). There were lots of different textures to sift through to find the treasure.
Watching the eruptions happen all over the table was so exciting. I loved how the colored soapy water added a foamy magic to the eruptions. Oh what fun!
Have you been able to recycle parts of one project into another project?
