Everything you need to know about visiting Lost Forest at Aspen Snowmass and why you should include it on your next family trip to the area.
During our road trip through Colorado last summer, we spent a day at Lost Forest at Aspen Snowmass. It was one of our favorite days during our trip. Lost Forest is a mid-mountain playground that allows you and your family to be adventurous and decide how little or how much you want to do.
Lost Forest offers a zipline, ropes courses, an alpine coaster, hiking trails, a fishing pond, disc golf, and a climbing wall.
Lost Forest is open daily during the summer and only on the weekends (Friday-Sunday) during late summer/early fall. To see the exact dates that Lost Forest is open visit their website.
Arriving at Lost Forest
When you arrive at Aspen Snowmass, go to the Elk Camp Gondola and pick up your tickets from the Lost Forest booth/table.
Then you will take the Elk Camp Gondola to Lost Forest. When you walk off the gondola you have all the options of what you would like to explore.
Ropes Courses
The ropes course is amazing and beautiful at Lost Forest. I highly recommend challenging yourself on the courses. They have five courses that increase in difficulty as you move through. There are a variety of elements on each course including some zip lines and rappelling.
For the ropes course, you do have to book a time to visit. They will go over the rules with you and you will be fitted with safety equipment before attending ‘ground school’. At ‘ground school’ they go over how to move through the course and you get hands-on experience before entering the course.
We absolutely loved the ropes course, however, it did take the majority of the time that we were at Lost Forest.
Ticket Options
There are a couple of different ticket options depending on if you want to visit the ropes course or not and if you want to zipline.
The base ticket includes lift access on Elk Camp Gondola, along with access to Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, Rugged Ascent Climbing Wall, Aerial Approach Disc Golf, Trout Hook Fishing Pond, and Elevated Journeys Hiking Trails.
The Treeline Trial Challenge course includes everything in the base ticket but also access to the Treeline Trial Challenge Course (ropes course).
To see current ticket options and pricing visit Lost Forest’s website.
Weather
It is very common in the afternoons in the mountains to experience lightning. If there is lightning, Lost Forest will close down. Please note they do not offer refunds due to weather.
Aspen Snowmass
There is a restaurant up at Lost Forest, but there are also several restaurants, an ice cream shop, and shops in Aspen Snowmass. We had crepes at a shop before going up on the gondola and ice cream after.
