I have been wanting to place a plant in my kitchen windowsill for awhile but needed something that was strong enough to withstand my not so green green-thumb. I decided to use succulents if I can keep them alive outside I should be able to keep them alive inside, right?
I had found these cute plastic cups at Target for 75 cents each. They are short glasses which are the perfect size for a individual planter. While I love the color with them being see through I decided they need some spray paint. I really debated on the color and thought about doing copper which would have been pretty, however I had Rust-oleum Metallic – Satin Nickle in my garage leftover from another project. So silver it was!
I sprayed the cups with two thin coats starting with the cups on their rim and then flipping them over and spraying lightly inside from different angles to get the top edge evenly. The spray paint went on really well!
I went to my local home improvement store and picked out three succulents – golden barrel cacti, red moon cacti and minicry. Well truthfully S picked out the red cactus because she really liked the color. My store’s selection was very small I guess because it’s the middle of summer?
I gathered all my supplies: planters, rocks, soil and plants. To assemble I placed some small rocks in the bottom of the planters for drainage, then soil and my plant. These small succulents are the perfect size for my little planters!
I have to say that I love how this project turned out! I am enjoying washing dishes so much more by having these beautiful plants to look at.
Do you have indoor plants?
