Step into this fiesta-themed celebration inspired by the Disney Pixar movie, Coco…perfect for a viewing party or birthday party!
We have been wanting to see the movie Coco for a while now and there was no better time to see it than as part of our Disney trip countdown! My family loves to have a themed movie night which always includes themed food and decorations. However, you do not have to go out and buy a bunch of stuff or take a lot of time! I’ll show you how.
While our Coco party was a themed movie night, these ideas would also work great for a birthday party. The movie shares the Mexican culture so beautifully and is really something to celebrate!
I already had in my party stash a Papel Picado banner, however, you could purchase a festive party banner with bright colors or cut one using a die-cutting machine. I also grabbed some tissue paper flowers for the table. You can find all the directions on how to make your own here.
You can also add cactus or succulents to the table along with candles, vintage boxes, and/or Mexican inspired pottery you may have.
My daughter has a small guitar that I pulled from her playroom to decorate the fiesta with. While it’s not the same coloring as the famous Ernesto De La Cruz’s guitar in the movie it still helped set the mood of the party.
For the food, we served BBQ Chicken Sheet Pan Nachos (similar recipe here) which are easy to make and feed a crowd! No party is complete without dessert. We made a boxed cake and used frosting in three different colors to cover the cake. The cake was topped with a small Papel Picado banner that my daughter made.
We loved Coco! It is the perfect blend of family, culture, the celebration of life and death, and seizing your moment!
