Last year I posted about our day spent in Natchez, Mississippi which was my first time to the city. Over the past year, I have been at least three more times, spent a day visiting the Natchez Trace and even camped at the Natchez State Park. It has become one of my favorite cities to visit locally.
The Donut Shop
Arrive early or late, but you cannot miss the donuts at The Donut Shop. If there is a line (and yes I have seen it get really long) do not be discouraged – the donuts are worth it. Seriously they have so many different ones to choose from, but I am partial to the glazed.
Grand Village of the Natchez Indians
A National Historic Site, the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians was the political and religious capital of the Natchez Indian chiefdom of the late 17th and early 18th century. There are three mound sites that are rectangular, flat-topped earthen platforms where temples or the chief’s residence was erected. There were many signs located around that told you the history and significance of the Grand Village. 
The reconstructed Natchez Indian House gives you the idea of what life was like. 
The Grand Village also has a nature trail that we enjoyed a nice walk on. Trees, shrubs and flowers are identified along the path. A great way for S to burn off energy. 
The museum at the Grand Village also has a great “please touch” area for kids (or adults). Admission to the Grand Village and museum is free. 
Steampuck Coffee Roasters
We stopped at Steampunk Coffee Roasters for an afternoon coffee after shopping around downtown. I highly recommend the Pao de Queijo (Brazilian cheese rolls). S wanted to try them (mostly because they were sitting right in front of her), but they were delicious! We will definitely be back.
