In our house, we gather around the television and cheer on our favorite football team on Sundays. My husband is originally from Wisconsin and nothing goes together better with football than Beer Cheese Brats.
Beer Cheese Brats combine everything that Wisconsin is famous for beer, cheese and brats. Beer Cheese Brats will be making an appearance for our big game festivities even though our favorite team will not be going. Along with a pot of chili and jalapeño popper dip.
I boiled the brats with onions slices and apple wedges to add extra flavor. Then the brats are placed on the grill. Meanwhile, make the beer cheese sauce. When I cook with beer, I always use a beer that I would drink that way I know I am going to love what I put it in. I took one bite of these brats and could not get enough! Seriously, the beer cheese sauce was love at first bite.
- 8 brats
- 1/2 medium onion, sliced
- 1 apple, sliced
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- 1 Tablespoon flour
- 1/2 cup of beer
- 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar
- Chopped green onions
- 8 hot dog buns
- Boil brats with onions slices and apple wedges to add extra flavor.
- Grill brats for a couple minutes on each side. Optional grill hot dog buns for less than a minute.
- Melt in a pan over medium/low heat butter. Whisk in flour. Cook for a minute before whisking in the beer.
- When the sauce begins to thicken add the cheese. Stir.
- Remove from heat once the cheese has melted.
- Place a brat in each hot dog bun. Top with chopped green onions and beer cheese sauce.
Will you be watching the big game?
