I just realized that I never wrote about the time that we spent at The Saguaro – a Joie De Vivre Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona.
When we arrived at the hotel we were met by a valet, who instructed us where to park while we checked-in. We were warmly greeted at the front desk, the check-in process could not have been easier and we were quickly on our way to our room. The rooms are located across the driveway from the front desk and Distrito Restaurant. We opted to have the valet assist us with our luggage and to park our car. You are able to self-park; the lot is located around the outside of the buildings. Our bags arrived at our hotel room shortly after we did and the valet showed us some of the amenities of the room. We found that the valets had a wealth of information and throughout our visit would ask them if we had any questions instead of going all the way to the front desk.
Our room was located in building 4, floor 3 and overlooked the Calma Pool. When we opened our patio door we could hear the water fountain at the pool – talk about relaxing!
All the rooms at The Saguaro have been recently renovated. Our room was good size with splashes of bright colors and a modern/60s and western vibe. The room was decorated with vintage magazines, cameras, postcards and photos. We even had a couple books in the room that were available to read. S grabbed Pride and Prejudice and “read” that book throughout our stay.
A long desk made up the wall across from the bed and a table and chairs were next to the patio door. The lamps in the room were on dimmers which was nice when getting S ready for bed. Also in the room were a Keurig coffee machine, mini fridge, ipod docking station, safe and complimentary Wi-Fi.
We did find the bathroom to be very small – it was hard to open and close the door without hitting yourself. However, I liked that there was also a bar sink so that I could wash our water bottles or wash my hands even if someone was in the bathroom.
The Saguaro contains not one but two heated swimming pools; you wouldn’t think that you need a heated pool in Arizona but let me tell you after having been in a couple unheated pools on our trip it was really nice to have a heated one. Both pools are surrounded by lounge chairs, sleigh beds and cabanas in vibrant colors.
The Calma Pool is the smaller of the two pools. This pool is round with a water fountain. There is also a bench all the way around the pool. The max depth is 3 feet. It is a wonderful quiet pool to relax in or around.
The Picante Pool is a long rectangle pool with a bench down one of the long sides and a hot tub at the end. I consider this one the party pool with several large beach balls, a couple pool noodles and an inflatable ring for guest use. The pool bar is also located at the Picante Pool. Towels and bathrooms are available pool side.
We ended up spending more time at the pools than we planned to because they were so relaxing and we couldn’t pull S away. The pools are so large that no matter the time of day, they never felt crowded. S loved walking around on the benches located in both pools as the water only reached her thighs – it was perfect for a toddler.
We ordered both food and drinks at the pool bar; both were delicious and full of flavor. However, the food is made after you order it which takes a long time to get delivered to you, especially when you have a hungry toddler. Quick tip: while the pool bar is open complimentary lemon/lime infused ice water is available at the bar.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful with vibrant colors, gardens, hidden hammocks, and fountains.
The hotel’s location is perfect; right on the edge of Old Town and next to the Civic Center Mall. There are numerous restaurants, shops and nightlife all within walking distance.
The hotel property also contains a spa, fitness center, bicycle rentals and theDistrito Restaurant.
And how beautiful is the hotel at night?!?
A complaint we noticed when researching and reading reviews for this hotel was noise level. However, we did not experience any loud noise during our stay and both my husband and I are light sleepers.
I would recommend The Saguaro hotel to anyone staying in Scottsdale. My family was extremely happy with our experience and the next time we are in Scottsdale we will be staying at The Saguaro.

What an adorable hotel! I’ve always wanted to explore the southwest–on my travels, I’ve skipped over a huge part of the U.S. and I want to fill those gaps! I’ve heard Arizona is beautiful, and this looks like it would be a great base for exploring Scottsdale and Phoenix. 🙂

Arizona was an awesome place to visit! We stayed in Scottsdale for 4 nights to tour around the area and then worked our way north for a couple nights to see Sedona and the Grand Canyon.

The hotel is quite colorful. Thanks for the recommendation because I love going out to Arizona. My sister lived in Phoenix for a while and visiting her was fantastic. It’s so scenic. Pool side service is the good life.
