DIY Hula Hoop Tent

As the days start to cool off, we enjoy spending more and more time outside.  From long walks and bike rides to evenings on the back patio, it’s the time of year I look forward to especially after such a hot summer.  I just saw on our extended weather forecast a couple days with highs in the 70s.  I cannot wait for that!  

My daughter, S, and I both have sensitive skin.  We always use all® free clear detergent and mighty pacs® because it is free of dyes, perfumes, certain chemicals and irritating residues.  It is the#1 detergent recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians for Sensitive Skin.  By using all® free clear detergent that is one less thing I have to worry about with sensitive skin in our family.  

My daughter loves tents and enjoys reading inside of them.  I decided to try making a tent out of a hula hoop and a flat sheet.  It was really easy to make and you more than likely have everything on hand.  If the hula hoop tent gets dirty while outside you can wash the sheet.  Not only does all® free clear detergent remove 99% of the top everyday and seasonal allergens*, but it also fights tough stains, whiten whites and brightens colors.  With spending so much additional time outside, it’s nice to not have to worry about sensitive skin or seasonal allergens.  Always be sure to follow the directions on the all® free clear detergent package for use.

Hula Hoop Tent

To make the hula hoop tent, you will need a hula hoop, duct tape, a flat sheet (I used a queen size), fishing line (or rope) and scissors.  

Start by cutting your hula hoop so that you can feed your flat sheet on.  Looking at the flat sheet find the large seam side.  On the inside of the large seam, cut a slit through only the back layer of fabric and then feed the hula hoop through it.  When the sheet is completely on the hula hoop cut a slit on the other side to let the hula hoop out.  

Using duct tape, tape the two ends of the hula hoop together and then feed the sheet over the duct tape, so that you can not see it.

In order to hang the hula hoop tent, you will need to attach fishing line or rope to the hula hoop.  I recommend creating an X with the fishing line/rope at the top of the hula hoop.  Choose a spot along your hula hoop and cut a slit on the inside of the sheet.  Tie the fishing line/rope around the hula hoop and knot a couple times.

Directly across from your first slit, cut another slit and tie and knot the same fishing line/rope.

Halfway along the hula hoop between the first two slits, cut another slit and tie and knot a new section of the fishing line/rope onto the hula hoop.  Directly across from your first slit, cut another slit and tie and knot the same fishing line/rope.

You should see an X at the top of the hula hoop.  Where the two lines meet in the middle, tie a new piece of fishing line and the other end of the line will then tie around a tree branch.  

Once you hang your tent from the tree it’s time to decorate.  We filled the grass under the tent with blankets and pillows.  A metal bucket, bottled water, and stacks of books fill the space.  We also added battery operated lights and a tassel banner for even more fun!

While I was at my favorite retail store picking up everything I needed to make the hula hoop tent, I also stopped in the detergent aisle to pick up a bottle of all® free clear detergent and all® free clear Mighty Pacs®.
