I consider my RV to be my second home, it is just on wheels. My RV is fully furnished with sheets, towels, dishes and pans. It also has it’s own coffee pot, because I cannot survive without my coffee in the morning! We have owned our camper for more than a year and try to use it at least once a month. Visiting 16 campgrounds in all, we have experienced many weekend trips, a trip to the beach, a trip to visit family in Wisconsin and a trip to Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Parks.
We have made so many incredible family memories from camping trips that we have talked about traveling and living in our camper full time It’s not just about the destination, but about the journey as well – #GoRVing.
I wanted to share with you some of my top reasons for getting your own RV so you can start going on more family adventures.
- Everything is Already Unpacked: I absolutely love that I can fill the camper with all of our clothes, toiletries, toys and food before our trip and when we get where we are going everything is already in place and unpacked. We visited Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Parks this summer on a two and a half week trip and easily fit everything that we needed into the RV.
- Cooking Your Own Food: Whether you’re trying to eat healthy or you have food allergies or you are trying to keep travel costs down being able to have a space to cook your own meals while on vacation is amazing! Between the fridge/freezer, stove, oven, microwave and your own grill, you can make anything that your family enjoys. Even when we are not at the camper for lunch, the kitchen allows us to pack a picnic to take with us. It is also nice to have cold water and ice for those days out hiking and exploring.
- Pets Can Come Too: Being able to take our dog camping with us was a huge draw to getting an RV. Now I do not have to worry about booking a kennel (or the extra cost) or finding a hotel that is pet friendly. With the RV, the whole family can stay together even on vacation!
- Cost: Yes, there is a cost to purchasing an RV; however RVs are available starting at just $6,000. For comparison purposes, our RV cost about $18,000 – that’s less than a new car. Plus a campsite is much, much cheaper than a hotel room.
- There is an RV to Fit Your Family and What You Need: Whether you are a couple or you have four kids, you will find an RV layout to fit your family. While it is usually just the three of us in our RV, we do have one queen bed, full size bunks, a fold out couch and a fold down table. There are some models with extra storage for families that take long trips. Or if you want to carry your ATV/bikes with you, there are even RVs that are toy haulers.
- Cut Out Some of the Stress of Traveling: With no baggage fees, no security lines, no time expectations or limits and only having to pack once before you leave home, RVs make life that much easier.
- Everywhere is Your Playground: While you can take long trips like we did (or even longer) to visit Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park, you can also take weekend getaways to state parks or weeklong trips to somewhere a little further away. We have a couple state parks within a two hour drive of our home that we frequent several times a year for fishing, canoeing, eating s’mores, taking bike rides and going on hikes. There are so many options when it comes to where to camp from national and state parks, to camping creekside/riverside, to camping by a lake or the ocean!
- Spontaneity: RVing allows for spontaneous spots along the way that you might miss if you flew. We stopped at a random pottery place where the artist was onsite in a tiny town on our way home from Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park.
- Restrooms: You may find this weird, but I love that I can use my own bathroom and not ones at gas stations when we are traveling. I know that it is clean with no wait and always has toilet paper!
- Family Togetherness: This is my number one reason for getting an RV! Every minute that we are on the road and camping, we are creating lasting family memories. We are concentrating on spending time together, relaxing and having fun, unplugging and connecting with each other.
