Note: Today I have a special guest post from my mom with photos by My Big Fat Happy Life.
Our current house came with a fig tree (lucky us) and the neighbors tell us it is at least 20 years old. This year has been a very “fruitful” year. We pick figs everyday during the season. We freeze them, make jam with them and we eat as many fresh figs as we can.
Pick them, wash them and eat them is the best way, but if you want to get a little fancy here is a pretty as well as yummy appetizer idea: Blue Fig.
- Wash your figs, cut them in half and arrange on a plate
- Sprinkle them with chopped pistachios (I used Cajun Spiced)
- Sprinkle on a little crumbled blue cheese
- Drizzle honey over it all
- Serve with your favorite crackers (I love Triscuit Cracked Pepper and Olive Oil)
This flavorful treat just feels like summer!
What is your favorite way to enjoy figs?

I will be able to start picking my figs in a week or two, so I was excited to read your post. I thought I hated them, so I never even TRIED figs until about 5 years ago when I decided I needed to do something with the ones on my tree instead of letting them go to waste. So I called my mama and found out how to make fig preserves. Fact is, I love them. But I’ve never eaten them any way except as preserves. I plan to try this idea. Thanks.

Nikki, I didn’t want to try them right off the tree at first – it took me a couple years. Once I finally tried them, I was hooked! I could eat 20 in one setting! I hope you enjoy your figs!

To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve ever had a fig! I do love blue cheese though so I’m sure i’d love this!

I wasn’t so sure about trying figs at first, but they are delicious right off the tree!
