While my husband is out numbered by females in the house, we still like to indulge his love for sports by turning events into fun viewing parties. The Big Tournament is no exception. One way that I interest my daughter in sporting events is having her help in the kitchen and assisting with decorating.
For the upcoming Taste the Madness, I decided to make a couple dessert options using OREOs and Coca-Cola Zero™ to help us enjoy many of the games. Having fun basketball inspired desserts on hand works perfectly with The Big Tournament, so that we can enjoy them during multiple games. OREOs Basketballs
Chocolate Covered OREO Basketballs are OREOs dipped in orange candy melts with the basketball stripes drawn on with black decorating gel. My daughter enjoyed drawing the lines on the OREOs for me.
- 1 package of your favorite OREO (I used double stuffed)
- 1 bag of orange Candy Melts
- 1 tube black decorating gel
- Melt the Candy Melts according to package.
- Cover OREOs in the melted Candy Melts. I used a Candy Melts dipping spoon to cover the OREO and then tap off the excess. You could also use a fork. Place the OREOs on wax paper to harden.
- Once hardened, draw on the basketball lines using black decorating gel.
- Tip: The double boiler method of melting the Candy Melts works better than microwaving.
- Tip 2: Using a Candy Melts dipping spoon helped out a lot.
Banner Decoration
While the Coke Zero cupcakes are baking and the OREOs are resting, S and I made banners for the tops of the cupcakes. These little banners are easy to make and you can customize them to your favorite team or for each basketball game you are watching.
Grab washi tape that matches your colors and peel off a 3 inch piece. Place a toothpick in the middle of the piece and fold over to line up the edges. To cut the banner edge, cut a small slit in the center of the end and then cut from each corner to the end of the center slit.
Coca-Cola Zero™ Cupcakes
Coke Zero Cupcakes are so simple yet delicious and only use two ingredients. Combine a box of white cake mix and one can of Coke Zero. Top with your favorite frosting and a banner with your teams favorite colors made out of washi tape and tooth pick.
- 1 box white cake mix
- 1 can Coke Zero
- 1 can frosting
- Mix together white cake mix and Coke Zero.
- Place liners in cupcake pan and fill 2/3 with cake batter.
- Bake according to cake mix for cupcakes.
- Once the cupcakes are cooled, frost. You can use a ziplock bag with one of the bottom corners barely cut. Then insert your frosting tip and coupler.
- Top each cupcake with a topper.

Thanks for the cute basketball party ideas. These little pennants are so cute and simple, love that. I’ve never heard of a candy melt dipping spoon, I”ll have to look for one. #client
