S loves Easter! Searching the house for Easter eggs in the morning is the best thing ever to her. What child doesn’t like a treasure hunt that ends with eggs filled with toys or candy and a basket of even more toys.
We try to limit the amount of candy that is a part of Easter. I do not put candy in S’s Easter basket, however some of her eggs do end up with M&Ms or other small candy. The remaining eggs get filled with:
- stickers
- temporary tattoos
- small lip balms
- puzzle pieces
- finger puppets
- plastic rings
- lego pieces
Something fun to do is to place clues in some of the Easter eggs to lead your child to their Easter basket. For example, I placed S’s Easter basket in the cabinet under the stove. Therefore the clues I placed in S’s Easter eggs were:
- Your basket is near something hot.
- Your basket is inside.
- Your basket is where we cook.
While none of these clues give the spot away by themselves combined gives a pretty good idea.
For the Easter basket itself we fill it with toys. I love to put together an Easter basket that S is really going to enjoy – personalizing it to her. Below are some ideas:
- Legos, especially this cute Easter Bunny Set
- Small Toys such as this cute Duck Racer, a Barbie or hot wheels
- Road Trip Entertainment like this Spot It! On the Road Game, magnetic boards or Water Wow paint kits
- Bubbles, especially a Bubble Gun
I hope you have a fabulous time putting together your child(ren)’s Easter basket and making their morning special!
What is your favorite thing to put in your kids’ Easter basket? Or what did you enjoy receiving when you were a kid?

The Easter bunny always brings a book or/ and movie but I must say… A chocolate Easter bunny with BIG ears is a must.
mybigfathappylife says
Books and movies are great ideas Aimee!
Tiffany says
These are definitely the way I tend to go for Easter since I try to limit my Kiddies candy intake as much as possible. Plus they never eat it all anyway. Great ideas!
mybigfathappylife says
So true Tiffany! And then the candy just sits…
Alli says
I always loved playing the “hot/cold” game with my kids. Books were always a big favorite with them, too. I always limit the amount of candy as well. These are all good ideas!
mybigfathappylife says
Thanks Alli! I love giving books to S – she’s on a Judy Moody series kick right now!
Nadeen says
Very cute ideas and fun clues! With so much childhood obesity it’s good to have some non candy options!

Cute ideas! I don’t put candy in my kid’s Easter baskets either. They usually get fun stuff for the summer like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, squirt guns, books and movies. That bubble gun you shared looks really fun!
mybigfathappylife says
My daughter loves hers! and we just refill the small bubble container with our massive one.
Kate @KateMovingForward says
Bubbles are a great idea for any age!! I’m going to put some cute headbands in my tots and probably a new board book. 🙂
mybigfathappylife says
Those sound like great ideas!
Leanne | The Transplanted Southerner says
Very cute! I’ve never done the “candy filled eggs” (though we do chocolate Easter bunnies…). My kids are older now so things like $10 iTunes cards, STEAM gift cards, earbuds, and USB cables make their way into baskets. I’ve also done great old movies from the $5 bin at Walmart with popcorn and a box of theater candy, funky pens, and chapsticks. I like to give them things they can use for a while, not just a sugar rush 😉
mybigfathappylife says
Awesome ideas Leanne! I agree toys, gift cards, electronics all last a lot longer than candy!

what a sweetie! So great to get some ideas that doesn’t include candy or chocolate! By the end of the day the poor grands are so sugar crashed and irritable, I feel like feeding them to the Easter bunny! Thanks for sharing with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday!
mybigfathappylife says
Thank you! I know those sugar crashes are horrible!

Great ideas. My kids have food allergies, so I love the idea of putting things other than candy in their baskets!
mybigfathappylife says
Thanks, these are perfect for them!

Great ideas! I love the idea of putting Lego pieces in the Easter eggs- my kids would love that! We don’t do candy since they always end up with so much of it anyway. I’ve actually quit doing Easter baskets in general since between our three permanent boys and our foster daughter, there was only so much sidewalk chalk and bubbles they could use up. I’ve started getting each of them a book I know they would love and so far it has been a hit, especially with my oldest who is 9. Thanks so much for great ideas to stuff eggs with for the hunt this year!
