I have never been one for placing traditional gift tags on my Christmas presents. Many years I just write the recipient’s name on the bottom of the package with a sharpie marker. This year I decided to make clay gift tags with the recipients’ initials stamped onto it. S had fun helping me and stamped most of the letters into the clay.
To Make the Clay
Mix together 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/3 cup water. Cook on low heat until the dough is the consistency of mashed potatoes. Cool in a bowl covered with a damp cloth, then kneed until smooth.
To Make the Gift Tags
Roll the clay out and cut with a cookie cutter (I used a round 1 inch circle, which made 15 gift tags). Using small letter stamps press them into the dough to create the initials. We also add a little bit of texture to the clay using a pine cone. To punch out a space for the ribbon, I used a straw. Place the gift tags in a 200 degree oven for 1 hour; flip the ornaments half way through. Thread the gift tag through a ribbon and tie around the package.
Do you use gift tags on Christmas presents? What kind?

Those gift tags are adorable. I love unique gift tags. This year I’m using the alphabet stamps and stamping everyone’s initials or name on most of the gifts. Wish I had seen this one first. I’ll definitely pin it and try it!

Thank you so much Nicole! I love the wrapping paper too, it’s mostly left over and clearance from last year, but I did see Target had one new one this year.

Using the gift tags for secret Santas would be perfect! You definitely can use a bigger cookie cutter and fit a name or word on.

What a brilliant idea! If you didn’t have stamps you could use a bamboo skewer to write the initial in. You’ve also given me an idea for my cookies.
