With so many choices when it comes to Disney cruising, let me share with you why you should take a 7+ night Disney Cruise.
It should come as no surprise that we love cruising with Disney Cruise Line. We have taken 6 Disney Cruises in the last 5 years and none of them have been for less than 7 nights. I can say that we definitely love the longer cruises the most and especially enjoyed our 9-night and 13-night cruises. We have sailed a variety of itineraries including Alaska, Transatlantic, Europe, Western Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean, and Bahamas.
We have been asked many times about taking longer cruises particularly don’t you get bored, do you get seasick, or don’t you get tired of being stuck on a ship for so long. I can honestly say I have never been bored on a Disney Cruise (you can read more about all the activities onboard below). You can read more about how as someone who tends to get motion sickness I combat seasickness by preventing it before it happens in this post. We have never been tired of being on a Disney Cruise in fact by the end of our cruise we always wish we had more days.
Why should you take a cruise that is longer than 7-nights?
Adjustment
It takes time to adjust to the ship, the dining schedule, the number of activities, and evening shows/activities. The longer the cruise the more time you will have enjoying your trip after everyone has adjusted and fallen into a new routine.
More Time to Relax
With more days on a cruise especially more sea days will allow you to spend more time unwinding, disconnecting, and relaxing while making wonderful memories with your family.
Access to Characters
The more nights you have aboard a Disney Cruise the more time you have to meet and interact with the characters. We have also found that on long cruises with lots of days at sea that you may get to meet different characters than usually, meet characters in additional outfits, and meet characters together.
With more time on the ship, the character also get to know you and remember you. For example, my daughter always wear Minnie ears with different bows each day on the ship, however we were docked in Lisbon and about to get off the ship so my daughter was not wearing Minnie ears. We saw Chip and Dale meeting on the deck, so we headed out for a quick photo and Dale mimed asking where her ears were.
Sometimes especially on the longer cruises you may find different characters roaming around. We found the princesses doing this a lot on our last cruise. One evening my daughter stood and talk to Ariel for a long time while she was admiring the sea from a porthole.
Get to Know the Staff
With the longer cruises you have more time to get to know your dining staff, the counselors in the kids clubs, the activities team, and more. On the longer cruises, your dining team will learn your drink order, what you like (coffee with dessert) and don’t like (fresh pepper on your food – my husband), and they also get the feel for how you move through dinner (do you take it slow or rush). We have met some amazing staff on Disney Cruises and love seeing them again on future cruises!
More Time to Enjoy All the Activities Onboard
You will not believe all the activities, movies, and shows that are scheduled each day. In fact, we never get everything in that we want to on our cruises (even the 13-night one). From learning how to draw Disney characters to first-run movies to character meet and greets to arts and crafts to Disney trivia to learning how to fold the cute towel animals to cooking classes and so much more, you will not be bored on a Disney Cruises. And the best part is there are family activities and adult only activities so there is something for everyone.
Disney offers many choices when it comes to cruising from cruise destination to number of nights to port of departure. However, if you are wondering if you should take a short cruise or a longer cruise, I highly recommend taking the longer cruise. Please let me know if you have any questions about taking a Disney Cruise.
