Does every nine-year-old love Spirit on Netflix as much as my daughter? She impatiently waits for the new seasons to come out and then binge watches is them all. She has even renamed a neighbors horse Spirit because she looks like Spirit. So of course when it came to theming of her birthday party Spirit was at the top of her list.
Food
For the food, we choose items that contained food that horses tend to eat including Carrot Soufflé, Waldorf Salad that has apples in it, Southwest Black Bean Salad, and blackberries.
I always serve a platter of Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets at my parties because it saves me the time of making the main dish and everybody loves Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets. You can order the trays ahead of time for pickup. You can also choose trays that you heat at home which are perfect if you get together is on a Sunday when Chick-fil-A is closed.
Cake
I always make my daughter’s birthday cake and this year we did red velvet with whipped frosting that I applied using decorators tip and then we placed a horse on top with a number candle.
Decorations
I made a couple horse show ribbons for the cake stand and for S to wear with the number nine on it. Take a 3-inch circle punch and punch out a scrap of cardstock paper. Then grab your ribbon and starting at one end, begin folding the ribbon in even increments, holding the inside part of the fold (see image). Hot glue the ribbon to your punched circle as you go. Until you eventually create a circle. Glue another 3-inch circle that you have punched on top of your ribbon to hide all the glue. I used a horseshoe image to for the center, but you could choose anything you like. Then glue two long pieces of notched ribbon to the backside to hang down from the bottom of the ribbon. If one of the ribbons will be worn glue a pin back to the backside of the ribbon.
We used craft paper on the table with a wooden box to hold the cake and show ribbon. I found pink bandanna napkins and pink crate paper sphere banner. A bar cart was the perfect spot for the drinks and to hold presents which also overflowed onto the ground under the table.
S loved her party and it was fun and simple to put together for her.
