Does it seem silly to be talking about Halloween? But, guess what…the first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is August 17!
We have attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Disney’s Magic Kingdom a couple times. The party is a hard ticket event which means you have to purchase a separate ticket to attend; you do not need a general admission ticket. The party will be held on 34 select nights in August, September, and October.
We have enjoyed every party that we have attended and thought the party was worth the cost of admission. The earlier in the season you attend the party the least busy it should be. Also, Friday night parties tend to be busier than other nights. Below are some tips to get the most out of your party time.

New for 2018
- Select attractions will get added effects, including:
- The Mad Tea Party will take you for a colorful ride as new lighting and effects give a new spin on the night. Depending on the color of your costume, it may also transform under the new dancing lights. How cool is that?
- On Pirates of the Caribbean, new pirates invade experience, interacting with sailing Guests who will join the search for “Gunpowder Pete.” Arrrgh!
- On Space Mountain, explorers will hurtle through deep space as a new soundtrack and special effects transform the adventure.
- Storybook Circus welcomes the Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam, a dance party featuring favorite Disney Junior Characters, including Doc McStuffins!
Additional Entertainment
- Boo-to-You Halloween Parade including the Headless Horseman, dancing ghosts, and your favorite characters.
- Happy HalloWishes Fireworks is a magical extravaganza where the Disney Villains light up the night sky with fireworks with a wicked version of melodies while creepy colors cover Cinderella’s Castle.
- “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” is a spellbinding castle show, as the Sanderson Sisters take “stage fright” to another level.
- Cadaver Dans Barbershop Quartet will have you howling in laughter at their melodies and razor-sharp wit of this Dapper-Dans style “band”.
- Scream-o-Ween Dance Party as you kick up your feet with Mike, Sulley and other favorite friends from Monstropolis.
- Trick-or-Treating is plentiful with delicious candy and even allergy-friendly options.
Tips for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party
- The official hours of the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party are from 7:00 pm to midnight, however, Disney starts allowing guests to enter the Magic Kingdom at 4:00 pm with a party ticket. Look for the specifically marked gates. Make sure to get your wristband and party map! One of the best times to attend the party is on your arrival day so that you do not have to use a regular park ticket, but still get to start the magic.
- Use the time before the party starts to ride rides, eat dinner, and even line up for some of the most popular characters: Jack and Sally or the 7 dwarfs. This way you do not waste your valuable party time.
- The second Boo-to-You parade is less busy than the first, however, we knew that our daughter was probably not going to last until the 2nd parade, we found a spot 15 minutes before the 1st parade started in the second row in Frontierland. It was not perfect, but my husband put my daughter up on his shoulders and she enjoyed waving to all the characters in the parade from her vantage point. If having a great spot to watch the parade is important to you secure your spot early. Prior to the parade starting, the headless horseman rides down the parade route. At the end of the parade, cast members may hand out mickey shapes lollipops.
- There are some characters that are only available for meet and greets during the party. In addition, some characters that will sport Halloween costumes for the party.
- Enjoy some of the party-specific treats: candy corn soft-serve, Halloween inspired cupcakes and cookies, candy corn cotton candy, and more.
- Save trick-or-treating towards the end of the party so that you do not have to carry around the heavy candy. The cast members give large handfuls of candy and its good stuff. Even the adults can trick-or-treat.
And don’t forget the best part….everyone can dress up that includes children and adults. Be sure to check out Walt Disney World’s website for specific rules regarding costumes.

My youngest grandson adores Disney! The others love it, but he is over the moon about Mickey and all things related. We take them to Disney every spring, but we may need to change it to fall. I didn’t know about the party. It looks like so much fun and so festive! I bet your daughter had a blast!

super cute! I went to the Halloween event at Disneyland here in Cali not that long ago ( yeah I’m in my 20’s no shame haha ) and it was a lot of fun! I love Disneyland on a regular day, but lining up for candy made it that much more exciting LOL. I can definitely see that the kids would have a BLAST if they went as all the kids get to dress up and I liked that they even offered healthy options so every child would have some kind of treat.
mybigfathappylife says
That’s true Tianna; I forgot about the healthy option and that you can turn your candy in for non-allergy option too! I think I enjoy Disney World as much as my daughter!

Thank MJ! We really enjoy our trips to Disney World and we always tend to go in the off season – shorter lines, less crowded, cooler temperatures and special events.

So glad you posted this… We are planning on going the first week in Oct… Should we buy tickets now? And do most kids and parents dress up?
mybigfathappylife says
I would buy tickets in advance, some nights you get a discount if you order in advance. Almost all the kids will be dressed up and most of the adults in some way. Many families coordinate their costumes like all Toy Story characters. Just remember that it is still warm in Florida in October, so I would choose a costume with that in mind. Have a wonderful trip! You guys are going to have so much fun!

These are great tips! A Disney experience can be so much more enjoyable for kids and adults with a little preparation, paying attention to the tips from those who have been there! We found “The Unofficial Guide to Disney World” to be a fabulous resource on each trip. One tip I have in relation to the halloween party was learned the hard way. This took place 16 years ago but it is still valid. My son was 5 years old and chose to dress up as a dalmation (101 Dalmations was big that year.) and wore his costume to the park. Cruella Deville was in the parade and noticed my son watching. She made some harmless pretend gestures of reaching for him and my son was terrified!! He had nightmares for a long time. My tip is no costumes a Disney villain might notice! 🙂 Enjoy. Disney is truly magic.
mybigfathappylife says
That’s a great tip Wendy! Thank you for sharing.

Brilliant tips – we always go in early for these hard ticket events. Hubby and I visited the party a few years back and had a blast collecting all the candy – we loved looking at all the families in their costumes, and HalloWishes is AWESOME! It was raining really hard but it didn’t dampen the fireworks or our spirits. It’s on my bucket list to take the kiddos in a few years time!

We loved the halloween party! We are going to attend the christmas party this year for the first time.
