Find out why you should consider staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort at Walt Disney World including tips for your stay at this hotel.
Walt Disney World Resort has many resorts to choose from when considering a stay on property. We recently stayed at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and it’s unique theming and huge pool won us over. However, I do still prefer to stay at Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter Resort, you can read all about my love for this resort here.
Disney’s Art of Animation is a value resort located in the Wide World of Sports Resort Area. It currently only has bus transportation to the parks, but soon the Disney Skyliner (gondola service) will be located at the resort.

Here are 6 things not to miss at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort!
The Big Blue Pool
The largest resort pool at Walt Disney World is located at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort! The Big Blue Pool has a zero-entry entrance on one end and is themed after Finding Nemo including statues of your favorite characters.
For the little ones, Schoolyard Sprayground is a splash pad behind the Big Blue Pool. It has pop-up jets, gushing water and more familiar faces from Finding Nemo.
If a quieter pool is more your speed, you may want to check out one of the other two pools on property: Flippin’ Fins located in the Little Mermaid section of the resort or Cozy Cone Pool located in the Cars section of the resort. The Cozy Cone Pool also has first-come-first-serve private cabanas for your family to relax in!
Theming!
The theming at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is unique! There are four distinct sections at Disney’s Art of Animation each themed to a different classic animated movie including The Little Mermaid, Cars, Lion King, and Finding Nemo. Each section of the resort is full of statues of characters from the movie and the theming continues into the rooms.
Drawing Class
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort offers a drawing class for guests where you can learn how to draw some of your favorite Disney characters! Be sure to check the resort’s activity schedule for drawing class times.
Landscape of Flavors!
Art of Animation’s quick service location is located in the Animation Hall near the lobby. It has tons of food options with 5 walk-up counters that are sure to have something to please everyone in the family. Be sure to check out the cupcakes being offered during your stay.
Unique History
Just across Hourglass Lake from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Disney’s Pop Century Resort celebrates pop culture from the 1950’s through the 1990’s. At one point Disney’s Art of Animation Resort was supposed to continue the theming and celebrate the 1900’s through the 1940’s.
However, the resort was being built around the time of September 11, 2001, when the United States suffered a terrible terrorist attack. Since tourism declined for a period of time after this, Disney stopped construction on this resort. For nearly 10 years the resort sat idle even though a lot had already been built.
Eventually, Disney changed the theming for the resort. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort was completed and opened on May 31, 2012.
Family Suites
Three out of the four themed sections of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort are suites that can accommodate a family of up to six. Each family suite consists of:
- One bedroom with a queen size bed and television
- One double sleeper sofa in the living room with a television
- One table that folds down into a double sleeper
- A kitchenette with a sink, mini fridge, and a microwave!
- 2 full-size bathrooms with bathtubs
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is a great option for larger families who want to spread out while still being in one room.
