We play with chalk a lot from having fun to making learning fun! I’ve compiled a round up of 5 different ways that we have played with chalk (click on the title or photo to visit the original post with full details).
To Encourage Learning
I received these Ander Blake Liquid Chalk Markers which are a perfect for you or your child to use as an alternative to chalk. They work well if your child does not like to touch regular chalk. But these markers are not just for the chalkboard, you can also use them on any nonporous surface.
I asked S if she would like to practice spelling on a window using these liquid chalk markers. What child would not love an excuse to write on your windows! The first time you use the markers, make sure to follow the directions on the back of the package to get the liquid flowing – it will take a little bit to get going. The colors are very vibrant and flowed well from the marker.
S covered the window in various words everything from sight words to one of the first words she could spell “stop”. Then asked me to clean the window so she could draw.
How was clean up? Easy! I took a wet rag and wiped the window twice. Once to get the majority off and then a second time to get the remainder.
Sidewalk Chalk Painting with Water Guns
S has so much fun with this activity! We make our own chalk paint and added it to the water guns. Then S decorates the driveway!
ABC Shootout
To help practice letters as I called out a letter, S shot it with the water gun. The same idea could be used to practice numbers, shapes or sight words.
Rainy Day Art
The rain doesn’t deter us from having fun! Chalk is beautiful on wet surfaces! Definitely try this one out!
Exploding Chalk Paint
Super fun activity that also involves science! This one gets a *little* messy!

The two-year-old I nanny just discovered chalk this week! Now she is always asking to play with it. I’ve been trying to think of some fun ways to incorporate learning into playing with chalk, and you have some great ideas! I should get a water gun and try the ABC shoot out too. Thanks for sharing these ideas with Hump Day Happenings!

My kids love chalk, I can’t wait to try out the chalk paint in the squirt guns. I know they’d love that one. May end up painting the house with it, but oh well! I found you from the Pin Me Linky Party.

It didn’t stain the driveway so I’m hoping for the same if your house gets decorated 🙂 I hope you kids have lots of Fun!
